Kothaguda Bamboo Cultivation and Skill Development Clusters.
The Kothaguda Bamboo Cultivation and Skill Development Cluster is a proposed initiative by the Bamboo Academy for Research and Entrepreneurship Foundation (BARE) to establish a four-acre dryland bamboo demonstration plantation in Miryalaguda Mandal, Nalgonda district, Telangana. The project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of cultivating commercially relevant bamboo species under dryland conditions while creating livelihood opportunities for tribal communities.
The project will evaluate bamboo species, planting methods, irrigation requirements, rainwater harvesting, soil improvement, plant survival, growth, and cultivation costs. A separate nursery facility is proposed to support mother-stock development, propagation, and plant hardening. Farmer training, youth skill development, women’s self-help groups, and bamboo-based entrepreneurship will form important components of the initiative.
BARE also proposes collaboration with NIT Warangal for scientific research, species selection, propagation techniques, field trials, and bamboo biomass applications, subject to formal approvals. The five-acre demonstration site will serve as an evidence-based pilot before expanding cultivation through participating farmers and community lands.
The proposal seeks government support for lawful land allotment, departmental verification, preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR), beneficiary mobilisation, and technical coordination. The long-term vision is to develop a sustainable bamboo-based ecosystem connecting cultivation, nursery development, skills, processing, markets, and tribal livelihoods, with expansion guided by verified results, land availability, water resources, and market demand.
